OUR MYP JOURNEY
On 19 October, 2017 HBIS was approved as an IB MYP Candidate school. Our candidacy period formally began on March 1st 2018. IB Schools share a common philosophy – a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education – that we believe is important for our students.
We will be documenting our MYP journey below:
MYP IMPLEMENTATION TRAINING – DUBAI, MARCH 01 – 05
Recently I attended MYP Implementation training in Dubai. I was greeted by principals and other coordinators from International schools across the globe. What struck me is that we were all there to change the way our schools viewed education. The training was divided into a three day workshop where we were involved in exuberant and interactive study circles and feed-back groups. The nuances of the Middle Years Programme was divided into digestible units and as the workshop unfolded, I couldn’t help but get excited and have sudden brain waves about the changes that are going to happen in our Middle Years at HBIS.
The age group of 11-16 is a crucial time in a child’s developmental stages and I personally believe that the Middle Years Programme will effectively address each change and allow our students to become reflective in their thinking and how they view the world. The MYP way will equip students with skills that they will use in the world one day when they become adults – it will expose their young minds to different concepts. The MYP way will imbibe in our students a sense of global citizenship and help them to understand global concepts that will teach them empathy, culture fair aesthetics, individuality, critical thinking, the list of advantages is endless.
The face of education is undergoing transformation at HBIS. This journey has started phenomenally with educators attending workshops and already working towards the future. Watch this space for further MYP updates.
