With the introduction of the Middle Years Programme came the introduction of Design as the newest subject to be offered at HBIS.
The students have embraced the subject wholeheartedly and have produced some extraordinary work for their first projects. Working in groups to help break the ice of a new subject the MYP 1s have constructed Baby Mobiles; I think many have learned how small design decisions could impact a human’s safety and life.
MYP 2 groups have designed and constructed architectural models of Tree Houses. They have become au fait with a blade and various types of glue in the process and have produced some incredible arboreal abodes.
MYP 3 groups have been tasked with the creation of Physical Education games for the Senior Primary. They were given some basic pieces of wood and set on their way. I am so proud of the originality of their work and I have seen wonderful problem solving along the way.
All in all the students have been exposed to so many new opportunities for real-world learning and I think this subject is truly a subject to keep an eye on for the future of our youth.
