Extra-Curricular Activities are activities that fall outside the normal academic curriculum of the school. Being an International Baccalaureate World School, Hout Bay International School is committed to ensuring that our students embody the Learner Profile attribute requiring students to be Balanced. A balanced student understands the importance of intellectual, physical and emotional balance allowing them to achieve personal well-being for themselves and others.
Hout Bay International School offers a wide range of activities within the following areas; sports, cultural, outdoor education and community service. It is our belief that students who participate in extra-curricular activities after school obtain numerous benefits. Some of these include:
- Learning Time Management and Prioritizing
- Getting Involved in Diverse Interests
- Learning About Long Term Commitments
- Making a Contribution
- Raising Self Esteem
- Building Solid Relationships
At HBIS we do our best to offer a balanced and diverse extra-curricular program. Various service providers make use of our facilities to offer their activities and the school even manages some of the off-campus activities by providing bus trips to the venues of the activities.
Students in the Primary School start competitive sport from PYP 3 (8 years old) where we are part of active leagues, particularly in the winter months.
High School students are also part of various leagues and depending on the sport, will play regular matches.
