From the Principal’s Desk – 01 August, 2019

Dear Parents,

Last night I attended the PYP 5’s Science Experiment Evening.  Each student presented his/her own project on Energy.  Parents who were invited to the evening were also asked to grade their own children’s project.  I was so impressed at the variety and standard of the projects; the confidence of the students as they discussed their projects with each adult that came up to their table; and above all, the fact that each of them really understood the key concepts of their topics and communicated them with authority and palpable enjoyment and enthusiasm.

I must congratulate each student on the outstanding quality of their projects and presentations and also thank Mrs. Rhona Sehested-Larsen and Mr. Andrew Travis for inspiring their students to produce such superb work.

The evening also was a visible demonstration on the power and effectiveness of the PYP programme’s focus on inquiry-based learning which:

• recognizes students as being actively involved in their own learning and as taking responsibility for that learning.
• draws from students’ interests enabling them to relate to, explore and understand the world around them
• encourages students to think, challenge and extend their ideas and prompts them to reflect and take action
• nurtures curiosity and promotes enthusiasm for life-long learning

“It’s not about what teachers cover; It’s about what students discover.”
