From the Principal’s Desk – 12 October, 2018
Dear Parents,
Of all the qualities we hope to instill in our children, courage is quite possibly one of the most important. By definition courage is: ‘the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc., without fear’.
This was a special week at HBIS where two of our year groups, at very different stages in their educational journey, had to demonstrate courage. Our PYP 1 Students wowed their parents with their first ever project presentations, no easy feat for a 6 – 7 year old! They prepared beautiful posters on an animal of their choosing, and not only had to research this animal but also had to prepare their posters and learn all the interesting information they had collated to be able to confidently present this information to not just their own parents but also those of their peers.
And our IGCSE 1 Business Studies Students showed immense courage when facing the formidable ‘Dragon’s’ at this year’s ‘Dragons’ Den’. To formulate a business plan, develop a product, and then ‘sell’ it to a panel of reputable ‘Dragon’s’ would be a formidable task for most adults, let alone an IGSCE 1 student.
A valuable lesson was learnt by each of the students who participated in these two events this week. A life skill that will stand them in good stead for future challenges they may face!
Kind regards,
Grant Ruskovich
