The Parent’s Association aims to encourage closer links between home, school and the larger community of Hout Bay through:
- Representing the parents views at large and supporting the ethos of the school
- Promoting positive close co-operation and communication between parents, school staff and school owners
- Enhancing the education and well-being of the pupils of HBIS through mobilising parent involvement in school activities such as fundraising and events
- Supporting the teachers and staff to promote the values, vision and public image of HBIS to the broader community

PIP HANCE – JUNIOR PRIMARY REPRESENTATIVE
Pip is originally from England and husband Andrew from Scotland. They have been in Cape Town 10+ years and only recently moved to Hout Bay in 2017. They have one child in Early Years and one on the way (due in June). Both Pip and Andrew have lived and worked in many different countries including Tanzania, Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Far East, and both have travelled extensively. Pip’s professional background has been an eclectic mix of Civil Engineering, Journalism, Marketing and Tourism and finally settling with the most difficult job of all – Motherhood!
RUMALAN GOVENDER – JUNIOR PRIMARY REPRESENTATIVE
Rumalan and his wife Preeta have two children at HBIS in PYP1 and PYP3.
After moving to Hout Bay in 2015 and meeting many wonderful families and communities in the area, they have become ardent fans of the Hout Bay “village”.
Being a firm believer in the IB program he is looking forward to working with school management to help drive the initiatives of the PA.
HANS PIET – SENIOR PRIMARY REPRESENTATIVE
Hans and his family moved to Hout Bay early 2017. Together with his wife Babette van der Kloet, they have 3 children who are attending school at HBIS. Their eldest son is in MYC3 their daughter, PYP6 and son in PYP4. Originally Dutch, Hans moved to South Africa for the first time in 1997, and left in 2005 to work and live in Kenya, and returned to SA in 2013. After leaving a managerial position for strategic sales & marketing at a global ICT company in 2015, Hans moved into business development consultancy focusing on the ICT market in Sub-saharan Africa. Hans is passionate about technology and the opportunities it presents, and loves outdoor activities like cycling, canoeing and hiking.
KRISTIN BEAULIEU – SENIOR PRIMARY REPRESENTATIVE
Kristin and her family – husband, Norman; daughter, Mia (PYP6) and son, Pierce (PYP3) moved to South Africa in 2016 from Boston, Massachusetts. Kristin went to university in Canada and studied East Asian Studies and Economics. She worked in publishing for 15+ years running
sales and marketing for two large technology publishers before coming to South Africa. She and her husband moved here for her husband’s company, Village Corps, which focuses on community development work in Ghana as well as South Africa. Prior to moving to South Africa, her children were at the French IB school in Boston as she is strongly supportive of the education that the IB program can deliver when driven and supported by dedicated faculty and parents.
OONAGH HUNTER-LYNN – MYC REPRESENTATIVE
Oonagh and her husband Bradley have two children at Hout Bay International School in PYP6 and MYC2. Oonagh is originally from Zimbabwe but has lived in England, the Netherlands, France and Singapore and now in Cape Town for 6 years. Oonagh worked for Starbucks in London and the Netherlands running logistics for promotions for the European, Middle Eastern and African supply chains. Oonagh has also worked as a teachers aid at an International PYP/IB school in Singapore for two years and is currently working in Hout Bay for a Financial Broker. She is a passionate advocate of the IB PYP/MYP and DP programmes.
SHONA DRUMMOND – IGCSE REPRESENTATIVE
Shona and her husband Neil have three children at Hout Bay International School – in EY2, MYC1 and IGCSE1. The family moved from Scotland to Johnannesburg in 2010 before making the move to Hout Bay in 2014. Shona’s professional background is in marketing and communications where she has been running her own marketing consultancy for over 10 years.
IRIS HENKEL – DP REPRESENTATIVE
Iris is a qualified teacher and sports scientist, as well as an events and project manager. Her passion for a tolerant, open minded society and her experience in CSR projects means she can support the PA team in many different areas. Iris and her husband Andreas have two boys. Johannes received his IB Diploma in 2016, is currently in Germany but will start at the University of Amsterdam for his tertiary studies in September this year. Louis F is in his final year of the IB Diploma course. Iris is also the Chairperson of CHELO – Children of Hout Bay Education and Learning Opportunity. CHELO is the bursary programme of HBIS – www.chelo.org.za
