From the Principal’s Desk – 18 October, 2018
Dear Parents,
Tomorrow afternoon we celebrate the 2018 Valedictory Service. This annual prestigious ceremony is the final assembly for our graduating DP 2 class and gives us the opportunity to celebrate them just before they head off to write their final International Baccalaureate examinations – in this case, the Class of 2018. There are a couple of unique aspects with regards this particular class – many of these students have been with HBIS since the very beginning, I have personally known many of these students for all of their high school career, they are the second biggest cohort in our school’s history of DP students writing the IB Diploma Examinations and they are the class that has possibly given us the most grey hairs!
They are bunch of incredibly strong minded individuals who are not afraid to push boundaries and question the status quo, sometimes rightly so and sometimes very misguided. They are possibly one of the most determined group of students I have ever seen and I can honestly say that I have learnt so much from each of them. They are the quintessential example of how one cannot “box” or “label” a student – they are uniquely individual and I respect them for that. I know that once we unleash them into the world they will most certainly make their mark in the most amazing ways.
And so as we bid the Class of 2018 farewell I want to take this opportunity to wish them all the best of luck for their upcoming final examinations and more importantly for the next stage of their young lives. I am hopeful that this class will produce the 100% pass rate we set at the start of the year and will enhance the pride the HBIS community already has for them right now.
Au revoir, Adiós, Zàijiàn, Vaarwel, Auf Wiedersehen, Totsiens, Arrivederci, Kwaheri and Farewell to Silas, Christine, Filippo, Emma D, Matthew, Louis, Emma K, Sando, Jessica, Thireena, Cyann, Daniella, Alexander, Elinor, Holly, Oscar, Michail, Ronan and Tiansheng.
