From the Vice Principal’s Desk – 26 April, 2018
Dear Parents,
We are about to embark on a wonderful 5 day long weekend which is ‘book-ended’ by 2 public holidays. The first being Freedom Day on 27 April and the second being Worker’s Day on 1 May.
While we are all looking forward to some downtime with our families that a long weekend affords us, it is important to remember the reason for the holiday.
On Friday we will celebrate the 24th Freedom Day in South Africa’s history. I was privileged to be part of the very ‘first’ Freedom Day when I worked at a polling station in our first democratic election. I clearly remember the camaraderie that was felt among the people, from all walks of life, that had come to cast their vote. The hope for a better future for all was tangible; a day (or feeling) that I will never forget.
I still have that feeling of hope when I spend time with many of the students in our school, young people who are learning to work collaboratively, be open-minded and above all to be principled, making the right choice when faced with a challenge. Attributes that are very much needed in the ‘new’ South Africa.
Wishing you a safe and enjoyable long weekend.
Kind regards,
Gill Baxter
